Though swapping identities has been a theme for most of the comedy movies in Tamil cinema, this one takes it a bit over the edge. This is a classic trendsetter for the Rom-com genre back then giving the same screen presence and weightage to a comedy actor.

Kadhalikka Neramillai (1964)

Server Sundaram (1964)

The journey of a young man’s aspiration to become a film actor only to win the love his life, Server Sundaram was, is and forever be a cult comedy classic in Tamil Cinema.
The movie also saw the late comedy actor Nagesh play as the lead for the first time in his career. A wide variety of emotions and philosophical learning presented with a huge dose of comedy is what gave this movie a monumental identity which still remains today.
Naanum Rowdy Dhaan (2015)

For people who are familiar with the earlier mentioned movies, the addition of NRT might not sink well. But here is the catch. Tamil cinema was undergoing a rapid development expanding its reach into the western style of filmmaking. This dark comedy had a simple narrative of a force to be a policeman who aspires to be rowdy and how he completes his first ever contract from his girlfriend.
Naanum Rowdy Thaan is a well-made attempt of the young director to leave a legacy among the list of tamil comedy movies.
