The film is the portrayal of a love triangle between the two lead actors and their love interest. It was a critical success, that has achieved a cult state in Tamil industry. It was remade in Hindi, featuring Madhavan, Sail Ali Khan, and Diya Mirza. While it was not an instant success like Minnale, it gained popularity and a ‘classic’ tag over the years among the youth.

16. Engeyum Eppodhum and Endendu Ninagagi

The movie was remade in Kannada as Endendu Ninagagi, featuring Vivek Narasimhan, Deepa Sannidhi, Anish Tejeshwar Sindhu Lokanath and received highly positive reviews.

The story revolves around the life of an army officer when he comes home on holiday. It was a commercial as well as a critical success. So, it is no surprise to see it remade into Hindi, as ‘Holiday’ starring Akshay Kumar and directed by A.R Murugadoss himself.

Ghajini is a neo-noir psychological thriller that is about a rich businessman who develops anterograde amnesia following a violent encounter in which his love interest was killed. He tries to avenge the killing with the aid of Polaroid Instant camera photographs, permanent tattoos on his body and a medical college student.

Aamir Khan who saw the original film decided to remake the film in Hindi. Murugadoss again directed the Hindi version. Asin reprised her character and the film marked her debut in Bollywood. The climax of Hindi version was slightly altered with Murugadoss revealing that Aamir rewrote the climax portions. The remake version was released in 2008 to positive reviews and became a successful film at the box office.
